The story
Chef director Luke French established JÖRO in Sheffield, bringing a distinctive blend of British cooking and Japanese inspired dishes to the region. He and his wife Stacey Sherwood French relocated the venture to a renovated nineteenth-century paper mill last December, placing their flagship MICHELIN starred venue near the Peak District border. The kitchen operates as an informal open plan space where eleven tables sit close enough to hear the pass. Guests experience Scandinavian cooking techniques alongside a dedicated fermentation and foraging programme.
The restaurant serves exclusively through curated tasting journeys rather than à la carte ordering. Diners navigate between a midweek option and the full signature progression depending on the day. Seasonal supplements adjust each service to match what arrives fresh from suppliers. The team maintains a strict no-waste policy while developing complex layers of taste through house-made ferments and daily pastries.
Large windows frame views of the adjacent forest and river while exposed brickwork retains the character of its former life as a paper manufacturing site. The dining room carries no dress code and actively welcomes families alongside serious food travellers. Natural light fills the space during afternoon service when the terrace opens for casual barbecue snacks and coffee. Evening seating shifts the mood toward concentrated conversation around the open kitchen.
