The story

The Loddon Swan Loddon | AA Rosette Dining & Modern British Cuisine

Local provenance and kitchen craft

The Loddon Swan in Loddon presents a refined approach to Modern British cooking within a historic setting. Head Chef Jack draws from a wealth of local artisans to shape menus that celebrate the region's best. The kitchen prioritises minimal food miles, sourcing top-quality ingredients from Norfolk and Suffolk farmers, butchers, and fishermen. Dishes are created entirely in-house, ranging from meat and fish to vegetarian options, with careful attention to balancing bold and gentle flavours. This dedication to regional produce underpins the kitchen's reputation, earning the establishment an AA Rosette for Culinary Excellence.

Interiors shaped by history

The building traces its origins to an 18th-century coaching house opened by Mr. Tricker before being revitalised in February 2012 by partners Andrew Freeland and Justin Fenwick. Their renovation preserved the authentic country pub character while updating the interior for modern comfort. Guests can relax near a roaring fire in the cosy back bar, dine in one of three separate dining areas, or enjoy fresh air in the courtyard. The menu reflects this blend of tradition and update, offering Modern British cuisine rooted in the local larder. The location sits within a designated conservation area, offering scenic views of the Holy Trinity Church, which dates back to 1490. Contemporary artwork supplied by a local dealer adorns the restaurant walls.

Libations and guest rooms

Landlord Andy Freeland brings a passion for fine wine to the bar, curating a well-researched list designed to complement every meal alongside perfectly kept local ales. These pairings highlight the versatility of Modern British cooking, where simple preparations let ingredients speak. Regular pours include guest selections, while long-term fixtures feature brewers such as Woodfordes and Wolf Brewery. Beyond the pint glass, the venue offers boutique bedrooms for overnight stays, including two dog-friendly rooms and traditional spaces in the old town hall. Morning service begins with breakfast in the restaurant, featuring full English options and continental selections prepared for guests.
