Five generations of the Grose family have guided this approach since 1896, when Margaret Amelia leased a quiet farmhouse to host early coastal visitors. Great-great-grandson Matthew now oversees the dining room, maintaining a focus on regional produce that recently earned one AA Rosette for culinary excellence.

Weathered wooden beams frame the interior, while a central stone fireplace draws guests inward during cooler months. Large windows face outward toward the garden wall, where covered tables catch the afternoon sun and offer clear sightlines across Thurlestone Bay. Families and well-behaved dogs move through the space freely, keeping the atmosphere closer to a classic British pub than a restricted restaurant.

The kitchen’s approach to British cooking favours straightforward techniques applied to familiar pub standards. Crisp roast potatoes, proper gravy, and vegetables pulled from nearby fields anchor the monthly Sunday service, which runs at three courses for forty pounds.
