A nineteenth century foundation

The building rose from the hillside around 1840 and later hosted the acclaimed writer Sir Hugh Walpole. He stayed at the property and borrowed its grounds as the fictional backdrop for his novels Rogue Herries and Judith Paris. Handmade timber furniture fills the guest rooms alongside king sized beds carved from Cumbrian oak. Award winning cabinet maker Matt Jardine even inset Lakeland slate directly into the headboards.

Woodland gardens and quiet mornings

Four acres of traffic free lawns stretch down toward private streams and mature woodland paths. Red squirrels and roe deer move through the trees while pheasants cross the gravel drives near breakfast service.
