The story
At Moor of Rannoch Restaurant & Rooms in Fort William, chef Steph Meikle designs a new seven course menu every evening. The cooking centres on seasonal Scottish produce drawn from independent suppliers, local foragers, and the on site polytunnel. This daily rotation keeps the Scottish kitchen agile and rewards repeat visitors with evolving flavour profiles.
Diners select separate starters, mains, and desserts before finishing with a cheese board of regional artisan wheels and homemade oatcakes. Preparations currently feature citrus and reisling cured monkfish accompanied by seaweed yoghurt, while Rannoch venison fillet arrives braised with red cabbage puree and juniper jus. Sweet courses shift nightly but frequently highlight brown bread ice cream with blackcurrant leaf syrup.
The historic station house overlooks one hundred thirty kilometres of wild moorland and tracks along the West Highland Railway. Eighteen seats fill an intimate room where staff arrange each table just once per service, allowing meals to unfold without rush. Living on site lets owners Scott and Steph cultivate a grounded hospitality that feels more like a private residence than a formal hotel.
