The story
Set in the quiet Cheshire village of Warmingham near Crewe, The Bear’s Paw serves modern European cuisine that shifts with the harvest. The kitchen builds its menus around regional suppliers and market-fresh ingredients, blending classic British cooking with subtle international techniques. That commitment to consistent quality earned the restaurant an AA Rosette for culinary excellence. Diners frequently praise the carefully plated mains, which balance familiar comfort with refined presentation.
Nelson Hotels & Inns purchased the 19th century Victorian building in March 2008, planning a full refurbishment before an electrical fire destroyed much of the structure months later. Workers stripped the inn to bare brick walls and completed a £2.5 million reconstruction, reopening the doors in May 2009. The current dining room keeps that original scale while adding contemporary furnishings and comfortable seating arrangements. Spacious tables and a working log fire create a relaxed dining room.
Behind the main bar, six permanent pumps feature real ales from Cheshire microbreweries like Weetwood Ales and Beartown Brewery. Rotating guest taps introduce seasonal cask-conditioned beers from regional producers across the north west. The cellar holds sixteen single malts alongside a broad selection of world wines designed to match the changing menu. Staff guide diners through both the draught and bottle lists with straightforward recommendations.
