The story
Restaurant Zeltinger Hof in Wittlich delivers a grounded approach to Mosel cuisine rooted in family heritage. Helmer and Margarethe Reis founded the establishment in 1967, originally operating as a local butcher shop before opening the dining room seven years later. Their son Markus Reis joined the kitchen in the mid nineties and assumed full ownership in two thousand four, guiding the shift toward sustainability and hyperlocal sourcing. Today the team sources ingredients directly from nearby farms while refining inherited recipes with contemporary precision.
The menu highlights meat from Duroc pigs raised on the premises, prepared alongside carefully crafted vegetarian plates. Seasonal vegetables and regional dairy appear frequently on the daily changing selections. The kitchen pairs these regional Mosel dishes with house-selected Rieslings, anchored by the dedicated WeinWand dinner that matches each plate with a corresponding bottle. Guests seeking a complete tasting journey can extend the experience to five or six additional courses.
Historic timber framing surrounds the main dining halls, preserving the architectural character of the original structure. Multiple separate rooms allow families and groups to gather without disrupting other patrons. A sunlit outdoor terrace named MarkusPlatz provides space for summer evenings. Two spoons from the Schlemmer Atlas recognize how effectively this Mosel-style kitchen balances domestic warmth with culinary ambition.
