The story
Restaurant Landwirtschaft serves a modern German country cooking style from a five hundred year old agricultural estate in Willich. Anja and Georg Heyes developed their hospitality model around the literal roots of the building and its historical role in food production. They maintain active crop cultivation and manage livestock directly on the grounds to supply the kitchen daily. This working farm structure bridges the gap between agricultural production and dedicated dining service.
The culinary program leans heavily on creative Landhausküche that adapts to weekly harvests. Chefs prioritize the texture of freshly picked vegetables alongside dairy from the on-site herd. Weekend breakfast spreads feature these same raw ingredients transformed into lighter morning preparations. The Schlemmer Atlas award acknowledges this consistent translation of field produce into refined plates.
Guests frequently reserve tables along the sunlit terrace where grazing cattle move quietly just beyond the railing. The venue sits strategically between Düsseldorf, Mönchengladbach, and Krefeld to attract urban visitors seeking quiet rural air. Private celebrations and family meals occupy the main hall when weather turns cooler. This steady rhythm of farm work and guest service keeps the space grounded in everyday routines.
