The story
Gasthaus Zum Benediktiner has anchored the Schwarzach am Main community as a working Franconian kitchen since 1853. The current team prepares meals strictly around the local harvest and regional suppliers. You will find familiar staples alongside seasonal shifts that keep the menu grounded in the Main valley. This steady commitment to authentic Franconian cooking earned a Schlemmer Atlas recognition last year.
The kitchen builds its service around wild game, fresh mushrooms, and house-made pastries. Guests regularly order the roasted venison loin served with a blackcurrant reduction or the pan-seared partridge breast resting on a chanterelle risotto. Traditional Franconian plates like the oven-baked Schäufele or the stuffed Benediktiner schnitzel appear frequently on the midday roster. Even the desserts follow a straightforward pattern, featuring apple strudel with walnut ice cream or a vanilla scoop finished with Dom Benedictine.
Diners gather in the original historic beer hall or step into the courtyard space directly facing the Münsterschwarzach Abbey. The room retains exposed wooden beams while modern furniture provides comfortable seating for both solo visitors and larger groups. Summer evenings draw attention to the outdoor area, which sits quietly amid the vineyards and river valleys. The layout encourages unhurried conversations between courses.
