The story
Heike and Lars Schippmann welcome guests to the Uhlenhorster Weinstube in Hamburg, where French culinary traditions meet a cozy Stuben atmosphere. Their dining room centers around a wall-sized painting, currently displaying original acrylic and oil works by artist Nadine Bülow. Patrons settle into the familiar setting while reviewing chalkboard specials that shift with the seasons.
The kitchen highlights fresh produce through a rotating list of daily suggestions written in chalk. Regular orders feature veal Wiener Schnitzel served with a herb-infused cucumber potato salad, alongside Kalbsrahmgulasch enriched with porcini mushrooms and Semmelknödel. Pan-fried chanterelles with bacon and onions provide an earthy option, while the Schlemmer Atlas recognition notes French preparations like Hahn in Rotwein and Käsefondues among the offerings.
A mini outdoor area complements the interior space, allowing diners to enjoy the gallery-like environment under open air. Visitors can browse the unique hand-painted canvases displayed on the walls, with pricing available for those interested in acquiring a piece. Dessert plates offer lighter alternatives, such as a miniature Flammkuchen topped with sweet sour cream, blueberries, and dark chocolate.
