The story
Schmücker Hof in Gladbeck builds its brunch menu around ingredients harvested daily from its own fields. The property traces its agricultural lineage to a thirteenth-century homestead, with the current location established when the Hülsken family moved here in eighteen twenty-four. Alexandra and Eberhard Schmücker inherited the land in nineteen ninety-four and shifted the focus entirely to horticulture. Their apple plantations and vegetable beds now supply the kitchen directly, ensuring every morning plate arrives with harvest-ready quality.
The kitchen team adjusts its à la carte offerings to match the shifting seasons. Spring brings field-fresh asparagus alongside tender spinach, while summer shifts attention to ripe strawberries and tart cherries served at the outdoor drive-in station. Guests ordering brunch can expect rotating preparations that highlight these exact harvest windows rather than static traditional dishes.
Diners gather in the stylish Kaminsaal or beneath the canopy of ancient trees in the inner courtyard. The building retains the original character of an old North Rhine-Westphalian farmhouse while incorporating contemporary comforts like ample natural light. This blend of heritage and practical design earned the establishment one and a half ladles from the Schlemmer Atlas guide. Visitors consistently note how the setting frames a simple weekend brunch as an unhurried afternoon ritual.
