The story
Denis Kabaj moved to Ostfriesland in 2012 and established Kabajs Restaurant in Emden to merge global influences with North German hospitality. Born in Poland and raised near Cologne, he brings a personal perspective to a modern German kitchen that reinterprets traditional favorites with seasonal precision. The menu avoids rigid conventions, favoring honest flavors and detailed preparation over complex presentation. Guests experience this approach through a continuous flow of dishes that change with availability while maintaining a consistent standard of quality.
The Schlemmer Atlas recognized the venue with one and a half spoons for its reliable excellence across breakfast, lunch, and dinner service. Evening plates frequently showcase delicate fish preparations and robust steaks, accompanied by inventive starters and carefully balanced vegetarian selections. The afternoon menu shifts focus to baked goods and beverages, where house-made Käsekuchen and fruit tarts pair with roasted coffees and loose leaf teas. This structure allows diners to enjoy the same high standards regardless of the time they arrive at the waterfront location.
Large windows frame the Binnenhafen, providing a dynamic backdrop of water and maritime activity for every seated guest. A sun deck extends the dining space outdoors when weather permits, preserving the relaxed connection to the harbor atmosphere. The restaurant operates from early morning until late evening, seamlessly transitioning between business lunches, casual coffee breaks, and intimate dinners. This flexibility supports both quick visits and extended stays, ensuring the ambiance remains welcoming whether the setting is bright daylight or evening twilight.
