The story
Casa Iberica in Dortmund houses a Mediterranean kitchen directed by Valter Hugo Fernandes Pereira. The native Portuguese chef opened the doors in 2012 after beginning kitchen assistance at age fourteen. Valter completed a confectionery apprenticeship alongside his culinary training. His career spanned establishments in Portugal, the United Kingdom, Brazil, and Spain. He relocated to Germany in 2009, taking management roles in Cologne and Düsseldorf before returning to the Dortmund area.
The kitchen produces over seventy tapas-style Mediterranean dishes designed for group dining. These shareable plates sit alongside robust grill and fish platters. Iberico ham serves as a frequent choice, while a whole lobster offers a substantial centerpiece. Valter blends his travel experience into classics such as Paella and Portuguese Surf & Turf. His pastry qualification also informs the dessert service, ensuring detailed sweet finishes to the meal.
Casa Iberica rests at Am Ossenbrink 55, positioned at the edge of the forest in Dortmund-Herdecke. The wooded surroundings create a relaxed backdrop for the restaurant's wide-ranging menu. The Schlemmer Atlas granted one and a half spoons in 2026 for the venue. Reviewers noted the smooth transition from cured meats and tapas to seafood and grilled selections. The accolade confirms the steady execution of the Mediterranean style in this local setting.
