The story
Klein Zoersel in Malle has built its reputation on straightforward brasserie cooking since Barbara and Peter opened their doors in 2009. The couple met as colleagues and turned shared ambitions into a working kitchen that prioritizes fresh ingredients and a carefully stocked wine cellar. Their decision to relocate to the current building in 2019 placed the dining room directly alongside the wooded edges of the ’s Herenbosch nature reserve. That commitment to honest preparation recently earned the establishment a Gault & Millau score of twelve for 2026.
Large windows frame the green canopy of the nearby reserve, bringing daylight and quiet into the main hall during lunch hours. Summer shifts the activity outdoors, where a natural pond borders the wooden terrace and offers guests chances to spot deer grazing at dusk. The staff maintains an unhurried pace that matches the relaxed setting. Evening service moves to the outdoor bar, where simple cocktails and regional wines complement the cooler air.
Barbara handles the guest welcome while Peter oversees the kitchen rhythm, ensuring every plate arrives promptly and correctly. The wine list draws heavily from European producers, offering selections that pair naturally with hearty plates and lighter starters alike. Regular visitors often return for the consistent balance between casual comfort and polished execution. That steady approach keeps the brasserie cuisine grounded in everyday quality rather than theatrical presentations.
