The story
Located near Newbury, The Pheasant Inn serves seasonal British dishes at its historic country pub. This building overlooks the Valley of the Racehorse after four and a half centuries of operation. Louis manages the front of house while his brigade prepares the menus daily. The snug features vintage leather bar stools for casual afternoon drinks.
The kitchen focuses on local harvests to craft quintessential plates. Starters like gin cured trout with dill whipped crème fraîche showcase careful technique. Pan fried king scallops arrive with wild garlic sauce and poached Yorkshire rhubarb.
Hearty mains anchor the menu, featuring rich game pie and succulent duck preparations. Weekend guests frequently order proper Sunday roasts served with braised ox cheek or roast pork porchetta. This dedication to traditional flavours and British cooking recently secured one AA Rosette for culinary excellence.
Fourteen bedrooms provide restful nights with Egyptian cotton sheets and Hypnos mattresses. An upstairs dining room offers an intimate supper setting for up to eighteen guests. That space includes an open fire and stylish decor for private events. The main bar continues to pour seasonal cocktails and traditional ales throughout the evening.
