The story
Scott’s in London began as a dedicated seafood warehouse in 1851, founded by fishmonger John Scott. Originally housed on Coventry Street in Haymarket for over a century, the business relocated to Mayfair’s Mount Street in 1967. Ian Fleming reportedly refined his famous shaken dry martini here during the 1950s. The venue even featured in cinematic history as a prisoner-of-war’s ultimate dining reward.
Head Chef David McCarthy directs a menu anchored in traditional British seafood and seasonal produce. The kitchen honors decades-old recipes while earning recognition through its recent AA Two Rosette award for culinary excellence. Diners encounter carefully executed shellfish preparations paired with an extensive wine collection and a separate brandy list. This approach keeps the seafood kitchen focused on quality ingredients rather than passing trends.
Martin Brudnizki Design Studio completed a comprehensive restoration in 2006 after Richard Caring purchased the property. The interior combines polished wood finishes with comfortable seating suited for a smart casual evening. Visitors may secure outdoor tables on the Mount Street terrace during warmer months, though a minimum spend applies for al fresco seating. The venue rounds out the service with dedicated spirits for pre-dinner relaxation.
