The story
Norma London brings contemporary Italian cooking to Charlotte Street in Fitzrovia, drawing its name from Vincenzo Bellini’s celebrated opera. The kitchen blends historical North African and Arab influences into a modern Italian framework that changes with the seasons. This approach earned the restaurant two AA rosettes for culinary excellence, recognising an Italian kitchen that prioritises ingredient-led cooking over fixed recipes. Handmade pasta, premium British produce and sun-soaked Mediterranean spices form the foundation of every plate.
The menu leans toward communal dining, reflecting how meals unfold across the island. Small plates like padron peppers with tahini sauce or truffle arancini sit alongside larger mains such as rigatoni alla norma and flourless gnocchi tossed with clams and bottarga. Seafood features prominently, with options ranging from seared tuna in harissa honey to spiced dover sole goujons served with saffron burro bianco. Many dishes arrive at the table ready for splitting, encouraging guests to move slowly through primi, secondi and dolci.
A restored Georgian townhouse houses the operation across three levels, beginning with a ground floor dining room beneath a striking glass atrium. An upstairs cocktail bar provides space for lingering aperitivi, while a street-facing terrace extends the dining area during warmer months. The beverage list mirrors the kitchen’s focus, featuring Sicilian vineyards and botanical cocktails crafted with citrus and herbs. Service follows a straightforward philosophy of generosity, ensuring the food and surroundings remain the clear focal point.
