The story
Colbert brings classic French cooking to a relaxed neighbourhood address in London’s Chelsea district. Head Chef Sascha Rieb steers the kitchen with a focus on seasonal weekly specials built around traditional bistro foundations. He joined the establishment in the summer of 2019 after rising through the ranks at The Wolseley, bringing two decades of experience across London and German hotels to Sloane Square. His steady craftsmanship earned the restaurant its one AA Rosette for culinary excellence.
The all-day French bistro menu serves straightforward classics like Steak Tartare, Soupe à l’Oignon, and pan-seared sea bream alongside green beans and sauce vierge. Patrons often request the Soufflé Suisse or order the crab and Comté omelette for an earlier meal, though the pastry team also prepares macarons fait maison and crème brûlée throughout the day. Floral infused cocktails complement the wine list, which features limited cellar selections such as a Jurançon Sec from Bernard Larrieu and a Bandol rosé from Château de Pibarnon.
Colbert occupies a relaxed neighbourhood spot directly opposite The Royal Court Theatre, designed to mimic the expansive feel of historic Parisian cafés. Artworks and local memorabilia fill the walls, creating a layered interior that feels lived in rather than staged. Guests can choose between the main dining room, the bar, or the terrace known as Jardin de Paris during warmer months. The outdoor tables operate on a walk-in basis, leaving the door open for spontaneous visits after matinee shows.
