The story
The Corner House in Canterbury presents a modern British menu anchored by simple food done well. Located just outside the city walls, this independently owned restaurant has secured two AA Rosettes for culinary excellence through its dedication to local ingredients. Chefs cook in an open kitchen visible from the forty-seat main dining area, preparing dishes centred on the best of Kentish produce.
Seasonal menus rotate to highlight fresh availability, featuring shareable plates such as Lamb Shoulder for Two and a Beef Wellington for Two. Independent guest feedback often highlights the quality of these meat dishes, specifically calling the lamb excellent. Families can also book a table for a Sunday Lunch, and the kitchen provides a children's menu costing £15 that includes a main course, a beverage, and ice cream.
The building dates back to the sixteenth-century, and original timber beams remain visible throughout the interior spaces. A private dining room accommodates up to twenty-six guests and opens onto a sheltered garden fitted with electric heaters for cooler evenings. The historic fabric extends to the upstairs bedrooms, where the Attic room features low arched ceilings and exposed beams above the double bed.
A bar serves handcrafted cocktails and premium spirits alongside a selection of wines featuring bottles like Balfour Luke's Pinot Noir and Chapel Down Brut Reserve. Guests can also purchase selected bottles to take home, extending the restaurant's retail presence. The kitchen prepares desserts suitable for various diets, ensuring dairy-free and gluten-free options are accessible for every menu type.
