The story
Berwick Lodge serves Modern British cuisine from a dedicated kitchen team within a renovated Victorian manor set across 18 acres of private grounds in Henbury, Bristol. Owners Sarah and Fevzi Arikan acquired the property in 2003 and spent years transforming the 1890 building into a home for guests and diners alike. Fevzi applied his skills as a builder and carpenter to craft every detail, including twenty-six bespoke doors designed to ensure privacy and exclusivity throughout the lodge.
The kitchen delivers a best-of-British menu that relies on premium, locally sourced ingredients to define its flavour profile. Sarah Arikan oversees operations while the culinary team prepares dishes for lunch and dinner, alongside a dedicated afternoon tea service. This commitment to quality earned the venue a 2 AA Rosette award for culinary excellence, recognising the standard achieved in both everyday dining and special occasion menus.
Interiors feature wood-panelled walls and chandeliers softened by houseplants, reflecting a thoughtful fusion of British tradition and Turkish heritage brought over from Istanbul by the owners. Guests can dine on the Anatolia Terrace during warmer months, enjoying long evenings under the open sky. The surrounding landscape includes a wisteria pergola and Aphrodite's Dome, garden structures that provide distinct backdrops for meals and celebrations.
The afternoon tea offering caters to families with a structure that allows one child to join adults for free, accompanied by unlimited drinks ranging from hot chocolate to milkshakes. The bar team prepares expertly crafted cocktails available during weekday afternoons, often paired with dining on the terrace. Whether hosting a birthday or an anniversary, the space supports intimate gatherings within the restaurant or cosy lounge areas.
