The story
Zén in Singapore delivers Nordic cuisine enriched with Japanese elegance, guided by Chef Björn Frantzén. Frantzén holds the distinction of being the only chef globally to lead three restaurants awarded three Michelin stars, a status built on training at acclaimed kitchens such as L'Arpège in Paris and Chez Nico in London. His culinary focus stems from a foundational memory of steak served with béarnaise sauce, shaping a career dedicated to precise technique. This commitment to gastronomy has earned Zén a One Diamond award from the Black Pearl Restaurant Guide in 2026.
The dining room accommodates just 23 guests across three levels of a classic shophouse on Bukit Pasoh Road. Frantzén arranged the space to support a seamless progression, allowing the meal to unfold as a carefully timed sequence between floors. Each visit spans approximately three and a half hours, emphasizing unhurried engagement with the service. Zén will pause operations from 2 June for a renovation intended to refine the interior while maintaining its core hospitality values. Reservation slots for the next month become available on the first day of each month at 10 AM local time.
The kitchen serves a fixed set menu rooted in Nordic tradition, highlighted by touches of Japanese refinement. Lunch pricing starts at SGD 450 per guest, and the dinner menu is set at SGD 620, with options for alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage pairings. The restaurant enforces strict dietary parameters, stating it cannot cater to vegan requests or allergies involving milk protein and gluten. These limitations ensure the team preserves the integrity of the sourcing and preparation methods throughout the dining session. The consistency of this approach helped Zén secure the number one ranking on La Liste for Singapore in 2025.
